The Mutant Revealer
For those not collecting for the future and so keeping their Daleks MIB, the packaging is easy to get into. Entry will, as usual, result in the destruction of the card backing unless some careful work with a scalpel is undertaken. Once inside the Dalek is attached to a clear inner lining piece and spacer by only three plastic-coated wire twist ties. Thankfully these are easily removed. (On some 12" Daleks I had to resort to wire snips!)
The Dalek is essentially the same build as used for the Genesis Arc Daleks, including the paint job. Changes from earlier issues include ball-joint mounted arm and gun, revised plunger, gun, eye stalk and dome lights. Additional rivet detail has been added to both the dome cowl, and the flared gun base where it meets the ball joint. The dome panel lines appear to be slightly wider than on previous versions, although no more deeply incised. The slats are also slightly wider.
The chest section is already detached in the packaging. It's easy to install and remove and, once in place, you probably wouldn't notice the Dalek was a 'Revealer' version unless you were looking very carefully.
The Mutant is moulded in a lilac colour. It and its control position are quite nicely done. Unfortunately they are buried within the chest cavity, so it's difficult to see much. It's a pity CO didn't make the insert so that it could slide forward for better viewing. For those who don't mind gently tampering with their Daleks, a little light dry-brushing with silver and gunmetal in this area could be beneficial.
The Assault Dalek
Packaging and build are as for the Revealer. CO have gone for a darker bronze colour this time, however. In artificial light it's similar to early issue 5.5" remote control Daleks, but darker yet and without the pinkish tinge. Of particular note is that the lower chest band is (correctly) body-coloured and not gold. On my example the fender appears to be a slightly more green colour than Arc and Revealer Daleks, and the fender rivets haven't been picked out in silver.
The main point of interest with this variant is the cutter claw, of course, which is a good representation given the scale. The second arm section, which terminates in the claw, comes incorrectly painted in bronze. Purists may wish to correct this by painting it silver.
Conclusion
As with other 5.5" CO Daleks, arguably both of these examples will benefit from having their gun tips and the eye stalk area between the disks and the eyeball painted black. Other than that, both are manufactured to the usual CO standard. A great addition to your Dalek ranks, space and funds permitting.
